Fantasy

I wish for yellow moments
under white birch trees

where sun is born on even gray
moist days. I wish to hold

three sugar maple leaves before
my face, a fan of orange, red

and purple-gold, a signal
to the silent, silken ones who

paint the trees in fall
that I’m in love with them.
