Should I take down my bird feeders/ 1 Year, 4 Months ago

Hi,
Does anyone know what you're supposed to do about bird feeders in the spring and summer? I really love watching my birds outside, but I heard something recently about how you shouldn't feed the birds outside of winter. Is this true? Anyone know why? I'd like to keep them up for selfish reasons, but I also want to be responsible.
I'd welcome any advise. Thanks!
Katie

If you don't take them done the bears will and they have a great memory for food: they will return again next year. We have found by April 1st our feeders must be down. We do spread some feed around lightly in the grass, just enough to morning feed and have never seen a bear bother to pick up 1 or 2 seeds. But some other bears may so please be careful. They must stay fearful of humans or problems will arise. Be safe. Ed
