Tree Farms 1 Year, 10 Months ago
I would like some information on tree farms. I own 18 acres in Westfield, MA and would like to preserve it. Also, are there tax breaks for owning a tree farm?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi Bob- The tree farm program in Massachusetts is administered by the Massachusetts Forest Landowners Association:
www.massforests.org/
and information nationally about that program is here:
www.treefarmsystem.org/

It is possible for you to get a property tax reduction by enrolling your property in either chapter 61, 61A, or 61B. For 61, you would need a management plan prepared by a forester - and you'd need one of these to be a Tree Farm. so your one management plan can get you enrolled in chapter 61, and enroll you in rhe rewe farm program.
more information on Chapter 61, 61A, and 61B can be found at
www.masswoods.net/
- where you can also find the Bureau of Forestry Service forester who covers your town. they administer the chapter 61 property tax program, and can come take a first look at your property with you.
good luck!
